It's not just brands that benefit from native ads; publications do as well. There is no negative response to native ads reported by 71 percent of publishers.
Native advertising types are as follows:
Search engine advertising: Unlike promoted listings, paid search ads appear at the top of customer search results. Both search engine marketing and individual domain search results use them.
Depending on the publisher, "promoted listing" and "paid search ad" often overlap. Foursquare, for example, places advertisers at the top of a customer's search results. Additionally, they promote businesses based on the searcher's current location and previous preferences.
Promoted Listings: On e-commerce sites, promoted listings feature sponsored products first, generally on category pages. Additionally, promoted listings are becoming more cost-effective as well. Promoted listings are no longer charged until the listing generates a sale for sellers like eBay.
Native elements in an advertisement: Native advertising looks like a standard ad, but it has significant contextual relevance to the publisher. Food brands might promote their proprietary recipes on websites that publish user-generated recipes, like AllRecipes.com, or next to New York Times articles that feature seasonal recipes.
Units in-feed: Integrated into a publication's natural index of articles, in-feed units promote sponsored content. Sponsored content appears alongside original content in a stream or gallery. Although the content is marked as sponsored, it blends into the publisher's native experience.
Ads tailored to the consumer's needs: For contextual ads that don't fit a specific format, the IAB uses the term "custom ads." If the consumers created a Pandora playlist for workout music, Pandora might display ads for sports drinks and products.
