According to a recent survey, B2B product-focused marketers are expected to increase their digital marketing spending by 12.55 percent in 2021 as opposed to the mere 1.34 percent in traditional advertising. This is because the unprecedented events of the last 18 months have accelerated a change in consumer behavior, leading brands to adapt to the new habits and demands of consumers and accordingly evolve their digital marketing strategies. The rising consumer expectations along with their diminishing attention span have compelled businesses to up their digital marketing efforts. Consumers tend to show a distinct love for quick and catchy visual ad campaigns. As a result, brands are investing in short-form videos. By balancing brand message with casual intonations, this marketing strategy helps in conveying product value, brand purpose, and call-to-action effectively. That's not all! Consumers are also displaying an inclination towards personalized ad campaigns. Studies have shown that despite the widespread concern around privacy, 72 percent of consumers are still likely to engage with ads that are uniquely personalized for them. Additionally, they are actively unsubscribing from mass-blasted emails and preferring personalized websites over generic ones. Addressing this, digital marketers are leveraging the latest technologies to understand customer interests, behaviors, and preferences to provide them with unique but privacy-safe experiences. The need to adopt a privacy-safe approach in marketing campaigns compels marketers to adhere to various compliance guidelines. This leads them to create more unique advertisements with less freedom or resources, resulting in low ROI. For instance, in 2020, brands suffered a major drop in their ROI due to their inability to target ad campaigns to audiences under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Despite the challenges of compliance and changing consumer behavior, digital marketing is growing in sophistication. Marketers are adopting automation tools to manage multiple customer touchpoints, predict outcomes, and calculate ROI. As a result, marketing automation may be becoming the only way to do effective digital marketing in 2021 and beyond.
